Gautam Adani is the founder and chairman of the Indian multinational corporation, Adani Group. Headquarter of Adani Group is situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. And his Adani foundation is being led by his wife, Priti Adani, who is also a dentist.

Due to sudden drops in shares at Adani Group, in 2017, his earned title of being India’s second richest man has gone from him.

As of here, we were having a sort of discussion containing a basic introduction of Gautam Adani, now we will be moving forward and will be discussing more things related to him like his early life, education, etc.

His Early Life

He was from a middle-class Jain family and was born on June 24, 1962, in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad. His mother’s name was Shanti Adani and his father’s name was Shantilal Adani, who was a small textile merchant.

Gautam Adani was seven siblings, of which the eldest is Mansukhbai Adani. In search of livelihood, his family migrated to Northern Gujarat.

His schooling has been done by Sheth C.N. Vidyalaya, in Ahmedabad. But when he was in his graduation 2nd year, he dropped out after the second year. He has two sons with his wife, Priti Adani. Those sons are named Karan Adani and Jeet Adani.

Career

Even though Gautam Adani was always interested in the business and wanted to start his own business, he did not take over the textile business of his father. In his teenage years only, he moved he went to Mumbai, in 1978, and there he worked for Mahendra Brothers as a diamond sorter for almost two or three years, and then he opened his firm diamond brokerage, in Mumbai.

In Ahmedabad, 1981, Gautam’s eldest brother, Mansukhbhai Adani brought a plastics unit, and let Gautam manage operations. And this venture works out as a gateway for Adani to global trade through PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) imports.

Afterward, in 1985, he began to import polymers to small-scale industries. And in 1988, Adani Exports got established by Gautam Adani, which is now known as Adani Enterprises. This enterprise deals in power commodities and agriculture.

Their business started to expand in the 90s and the economic liberation policies of that time were favorable for the Adani Group, due to which Gautam Adani started to expand his business into textiles, agro products, and metals.

Continuing his journey of achievements, in 1995, Adani got the contract for the Mudra Port and he did set up his first pier in the same year. In the starting, the Mudra Port was originally operated by Mudra Port and Special Economic Zone, but later, all its operations got transferred to Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ). This is the largest multi-port operator.

Then, Adani founded a power business as well, named Adani Powers, in 1996, under the Adani Group. Around 4620 capacity of thermal power plants t holds and also is the largest producer of thermal power.

Wait, Gautam Adani did not stop here. But instead, in 2006, he decided to enter the power generator business, too. Adding further, from 2009 to 2012, Abbot Point Port in Australia and Carmichael coal mine in Queensland.

And recently in May 2020, he won the world’s largest solar bid that was organized by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), this bid was for 6 billion dollars.
