#1. Dhirubhai Ambani

Born in Gujarat’s town of Chorwad, Dhirubhai Ambani was a school teacher’s son who began his journey of entrepreneurship as a bhajia (gram flour fritter) seller. When he was 16 years old and completed his matriculation, he went to Aden, Yemen to work as a gas-station attendant and also worked as a clerk in an oil company.

With just 50,000 rupees, in the year 1958, he came back to India, and here he established a textile company, Reliance Textiles, which became the first Indian company who raised money in global markets. The only and first Indian company to get featured on Forbes 500 list, was also reliance. In the year 1992.

Also, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) recognized Dhirubhai Ambani as The Indian Entrepreneur of the 20th Century.

#2. Karshanbhai Patel

Remember, that “Sabki Pasand Nirma” television advertisement? Karsanbhai Patel is the man behind the making of this detergent powder. When the cheapest detergent that was available in the market was 13 rupees per kilogram, in the backyard of his house in Ahmedabad, Karsanbhai used to make detergent and sell them door-to-door at just 3 rupees per kilogram.

And he was so sure about the quality of his made detergent that he would provide a money-back guarantee with each sale. His this confidence and strategy helped him a lot to target the people who were from financially weak segments.

Gradually in the year 1969, he established his one-man company and turned it into a company that has now 18,000+ employees and its turnover is over 7,000 crores.

The current net worth of Karsanbhai Patel, according to a Forbes post dated October 6, 2021, is 4.2 billion US dollars.

#3. Kalpana Saroj

Born in a Dalit family, she has faced many injustices, and being a girl made things more difficult for Kalpana Saroj. When she was just 12 years, she got married, and then her in-laws used to abuse her both physically and mentally. She even had to face rejection by her villagers, which made her try to commit suicide.

Kalpana Saroj returned to Mumbai and lived with her uncle after turning 16. To provide support to her family, she has started to work in a garment factory. Kalpana established a tailoring business and furniture store by taking loans from the government and succeeded them.

The entrepreneurial skills that she had, helped her to establish an effective real estate business, which also succeeded in the market and people started to know her.

In the year 2006, she took over Kamani Tubes Limited Company and is the present CEO. And not only this, in the year 2013, she has also been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award for trade and industry.

Furthermore, Bhartiya Mahila Bank, which is a women’s bank, appointed Kalpana Saroj to The Board of Directors.

#4. Narayan Murthy

A middle-class family boy, Narayan Murthy, wanted to become an engineer and for this, he cleared its entrance as well but he still could not join the Indian Institute of Technology as his father was unable to afford the fees for the same.

He then pursued a degree in electrical engineering from a local college of engineering and after completing his master’s degree at IIT Kanpur, he chose to pursue an IT career.

And then one day he gave birth to a Multinational Corporation, Infosys. And one of the most prestigious magazines, Forbes, recognized him as amongst the 12 greatest entrepreneurs.

Also, he has bagged both prestigious awards, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Shri.

#5. Sunil Bharti Mittal

Hailing from Punjab, Sunil Bharti Mittal, even before completing his graduation started to work when he was only 18 years old. Trucks were the mode of his travel due to his financial conditions, and during his travel, he used to live in cheaper hotels. Per day he used to work for 15 to 16 hours.
