Draupadi Murmu’s Inspiring Success Story

In this article we talk about Draupadi Murmu’s Inspiring Success Story. Draupadi Murmu from Odisha, who had contested against the United Opposition’s candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election, has created a history by becoming the first Tribal President of India. She is the 15th President of India, who through her hard work, earned her place in politics.

On Monday July 25, 2022 as president (now former) Ram Nath kovind’s presidential tenure has ended (on July 24, 2022), she took her oath as 15th president of India, at Central Hall of Parliament. She is now the second woman and first tribal woman president of India. She also was Jharkhand’s first female governor, and additionally, from the Odia tribe, she was the first woman and tribal leader to be appointed as a governor of an Indian state, who did hold this position for the whole tenure. N.D.A. (National Democratic Alliance) chose her to run for presidential seat, in the president election of 2022, and she has received majority of the votes with margins of the valid votes of over 64%. Furthermore, Draupadi Murmu is the first president of India, who was born after the independence, i.e. June 20, 1958.

Draupadi Murmu’s Inspiring Success Story & Personal Life:

In the village of Baidaposi in the Odisha district of Myurbhanj, Draupadi Murmu was born on June 20, 1958 into a Santali tribal family. Her father is Biranchi Narayan Tudu, who was a chosen sarpanch. Draupadi Murmu has completed her graduation from Rama Devi Women’s College, it was an arts college. Late Shyam Charan Murmu, her husband, was a banker. He expired in 2014. There were three children (two sons, and 1 daughter) of her, she lost her two sons, unluckily. In a 7-years period, from 2009 to 2015, she had lost her two sons, husband, brother, and mother.

She has faced many hardships, including poverty during her upbringing as she is from tribal family, they were in the most secluded and underdeveloped areas of the nation. But she still overcame all the hurdles and difficulties and earned her degree of graduation in arts stream, from the above mentioned college, i.e. Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. In Bhubaneswar, too, she worked as a junior assistant in Odisha’s irrigation and electricity division, from 1979 to 1983. Afterwards, she joined Sir Aurobindo International Foundation, Rairangpur, and served there until 1997.

Political Life of Draupadi Murmu:

Draupadi Murmu had started her career as a teacher, but as she was from a political family, she decided to enter into Odisha politics. Becoming a member of the B.J.P., she served as a counselor in Rairangpur Panchayat, and then got elected to lead it, in 2000.

In Mayurbhanj, from 2006 to 2009, she got elected to lead B.J.P. as both state and district president of the Schedule Tribe Morcha. Earlier to this, from March 6, 2000, to August 6, 20002, in Odisha, she held the position as the MoS (Minister of State) with Independent Charge for Commerce and Transportation, under the B.J.P. and B.J.D. (Biju Janta Dal) coalition administration. She became the first female governor of Jharkhand when she took oath of office, on May 18, 2015. She served in this post till 2021.

Surprisingly enough, she also was a nominee from N.D.A. for the president election of 2017, but at that time she was 59 and luck was in her favor, which made her get the highest office of the country, in the president election of 2020, and that also as the first tribal women president of the country.
